St. Mihovil Church

A fishing- and agricultural village which has been situated along fertile soil-field which is very seldom to find on the islands of the Adriatic Sea. The medival part contains interesting cottages from stone, built one on another, representing the past hard life of the islander`s lives. The village is cut by a creek through which during heavy rainings, water entered the sea. There is a stone-bridge over the creek, close to the local church.

The first memorial dates back to year 1067, and the place got its name after the monastery of Saint Nevidane. The monastery was ruined during different wars and battles, therefore it is hard to find ruins, unfortunately. On its place, there was a new church built in the 19th century. Close to it, there is a small Chapel, built in 1670. On the local cemetery, you can find the church of Saint Mihovil from the 15th century, the patron-saint of the village.

West to the village, you can find ruins of the church of Saint Martin from 9th - 11th century, from the time when this village was established.
